First Generation NVCers’ Events In-Person Retreat: An Even Deeper Dive into Knowing and Living the Roots of NVC as Received Directly from Marshall Rosenberg, March 9-14, 2025 Description: As First Generation NVC trainers, we have heard a desire from NVC practitioners and those steeped in NVC to understand what was stirred in Marshall in the creation and sharing of NVC teachings with the world and to connect with those who know the history and have lived NVC for over 30 years. This retreat is an opportunity to delve into
areas of NVC that may not have received as much attention as others in recent years, and to do so as we received it from Marshall. The retreat, which will take place March 9-14, 2025 at Mary & Joseph Retreat Center at Rancho Palos Verdes (close to LAX airport in California), is intended to be an advanced-level exploration of NVC and is open to Certified Trainers and Candidates registered with CNVC. Others steeped in NVC may be considered on a case-by-case
basis. Find out more about the First Generation NVCers and the event on their website: FirstGenNVCers To register, Click Here For general questions about the event, please contact the First Gens at silgiraffe@aol.com and copy firstgennvcers@fastmail.com. If you have registration

Nonviolent Communication and Toxic Masculinity |
Understanding Toxic MasculinityLet’s look more deeply at toxic masculinity! Clarifying some terms Let’s first clarify some terms which will be useful as we unpack the topics. Masculine does not equal male. Feminine does not equal female. Males, females — and people who identify as something else — we all have both masculine and feminine energies (which author David Deida refers to as “sexual essence”). We can generalize by saying that most males have more masculine essence and most females have more feminine essence. But there are many exceptions and variations! Some males have a more naturally feminine essence, and some
females have a more naturally masculine essence. And some people are more evenly balanced! Neither is better or worse — the point is that when we discuss masculinity we’re not talking only about males. Feminine essence and masculine essence — both have healthy, life-serving expressions as well as unhealthy, shadow-side manifestations. This may be the only reference in this article to unhealthy feminine, since our topic
today is toxic masculinity. Definition and explanation of toxic masculinity Most of us know or intuit what is meant by masculinity. But what does it mean when it becomes toxic? When traits commonly associated with healthy masculinity are taken to an extreme, they become toxic. Read More

Always hear the ‘Yes’ in the ‘No’. Marshall Rosenberg |
Would you like to support others to learn NVC? Many people across the world are longing to learn NVC, but they don’t have the financial means to do so. The NVC Academy provides many discounts and full scholarships each year. We enjoy offering these even as they affect our sustainability. As a way to continue being able to support those who are unable to pay for NVC
courses, we started the Community Support Fund. This is a place where you may choose to contribute financially towards other people’s registrations to our courses AND expand the spread of NVC in the world. Contribute to the Community Support Fund Your contribution helps to spread NVC consciousness and every penny goes to people who are requesting financial support to
attend a live course. Thank you in advance for choosing to share resources with members of our community so they may learn the life-changing power of NVC!
Nonviolent Communication Online Sessions Deepen your skills during 12 hours and support social change in Africa. For all experience levels!
Join this online learning experience of Nonviolent Communication to master NVC and support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the training in Nigeria. Get the opportunity to learn how to cultivate compassionate communication skills and explore ways to build a more harmonious and peaceful community. 6 sessions from July to October 2024, and their recordings! These events are designed to support the Nigerian International Intensive Training (IIT) (29-Nov to 08-Dec 2024) and its mission of promoting conflict resolution, resilience in relationships, and collaborative problem-solving. By participating in any of these sessions, you will not only enhance your own effective communication but also help all people
who cannot afford paying any tuition, nor room, board & travel expenses. Many people in Nigeria are becoming peacemakers in their communities, and yet the vast majority of them lack the resources and finances to receive formal training to advance their skills. If we can raise funds, more of them will be able to attend the Center for Nonviolent Communication’s 9-day intensive training in November 2024. Learn more
Help Bridge Divides with NVC Training
"The Network for Nonviolent Communication is a community of people from all walks of life. We are a diverse group of individuals across the spectrum of spirituality, politics, race and gender. Normally, people like us would never cross paths. So what brings us all together? We are learning how to bridge the divide between one another. We envision a world of collaboration, belonging and compassion. We are making that
world accessible to all through NVC training at the International Intensive Training in New Mexico." There are 16 individuals that significantly need financial support to attend the 9 day CNVC International Intensive Training in New Mexico. This group comes from all around the US, and each individual has a unique story which you can read about on the GoFundMe page.

WAKE UP! Life is too short to… Always play it safe. Be “right” instead of happy. Carry a grudge. Do “just enough” to get by. Engage your mouth when angry. Forget what really matters. Give up on your dreams. Have
a chip on your shoulder. Impose limitations on yourself. Just work for the money. Keep walking on eggshells. Leave words unspoken. Make mountains out of
molehills. Not try, for fear of failure. Obey all the rules. Pretend to be someone you’re not. Quit when the going gets tough. Risk nothing, do
nothing. Sweat the small stuff. Try to please everybody. Use blame, shame or guilt. Value things more than people. Wait for the other shoe to drop. Xperience life as a spectator. Yearn for the “good old days”. Zip right through it. © Meiji Stewart

Nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small it takes time—we haven’t time—and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time. —Georgia O’Keeffe
Empathy, a Potent Healer I cannot say it enough. Most of us rarely feel truly heard and understood. Empathy, the simple act of hearing someone and focusing your attention on them, can be incredibly healing. Try to listen for the feelings and needs behind someone’s words. This isn’t
always easy, but the results are remarkable. Here’s an example. One of your kids says, “We never do what I want.” That might be hard to hear if you focus on the words he uses and if you think 90 percent of your life is focused on meeting his needs. Take a deep breath and listen for what they are; I’m guessing respect, and a say in decision making. You don’t have to agree with him, by the way. All you’re doing is trying to understand his view of things. You could
respond with, “Are you frustrated and want more say in the family’s decision-making process?” That’s it! Now, carry the conversation through by listening for his feelings and needs and expressing your own. The whole conversation might sound like this, “Yeah, you and Dad always get your own way.” “So, you think we’re only doing what we want without considering what you want?” “Yeah.” “I feel sad about this because I know I spend a lot of time considering your needs, and then often neglecting my
own. I guess we both want the same thing, balance and respect. You and I would both like to know that the other one values our needs too. Do you agree with that?” “Yeah, I guess.” “Would you be willing to talk about what we are both hoping for tonight, and maybe brainstorm ways we can both get what we want?” “OK.” If we focus on the words, we often miss the point. Listen deeply to the needs the other person is trying to convey. Once you understand each other,
you will be ready to resolve the situation. Empathize with at least one person today. |
