Online Course Beginning June 18, 2025

Description:

The NVC Compassion Course Online with Thom Bond is entering it's 14th year this June 18th. We have surpassed 30,000 registrants and we are offering native language versions in over in 20+ languages around this entire globe. This year we are offering a Standard Participation, a Certificate of Completion track, a peer-led leadership program supporting practice groups and mentor/mentee relationships, as well as a vibrant empathy program that includes, empathy cafes, empathy buddy support, and special empathy and anger workshops.

Making Meetings Better with Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

Any significant accomplishment was made possible not by a single individual working alone, but by a group of people working together.

The individual working in isolation and making something remarkable happen is mostly a myth.

One of my mentors taught me the phrase it takes teamwork to make the dream work.

Working well together is important and valuable, and yet — people dread and avoid meetings (for good reason)!
I have participated in more meetings than I could count in which the process was so inefficient that I was left with intense frustration and disappointment, and the sense that I was wasting my time!
Meetings can be events during which topics of consequence are discussed and important decisions are made.
Meetings can also leave us drained, exhausted, and discouraged.
And meetings can provide understanding, clarity about a course of action, and leave participants feeling inspired and energized...

IF YOU WANT to make life easy for yourself and other people, you need to always be clear what you want back, anytime you say something to a person. And if you want to contribute to groups being unproductive,

address a group that you’re in this way: Start with “I think,” and don’t end on a request. Just say what you think, and . . . my prediction is, no

matter what you started with, the meeting will be unproductive.

Help Underserved Schools with Nonviolent Communication

The Relationship Foundation is a small nonprofit with a big vision, making an impact in Social and Emotional Learning by introducing Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Nonviolent Communication is a practice of expressing one’s needs and feelings without blame or judgment and listening empathically.

Teachers have commented that using NVC in the classroom has improved student behavior and academics. Another teacher said, “in my 20 years of teaching, I have never seen anything like this.”

Ten underserved schools have requested the curriculum and training sessions for their students and teachers. Your donation will help provide much-needed training sessions and curricula for underserved schools.

There are the two main reasons we don’t get our needs met. First, we don’t know how to express our needs to begin with and second if we do, we forget to put a clear request after it, or we use vague words like appreciate, listen, recognize, know, be real, and stuff like that.

Idiomatic vs. Formal Compassionate Communication

Do you sometimes feel awkward when you use the four components of Compassionate Communication (observation, feeling, need, request)? The four components are a tool to help people interact with others in a connected and compassionate manner. Formal use of the language is very valuable for people just learning the Compassionate Communication process. However, the true foundation of Compassionate Communication is to maintain a consciousness that values everyone’s needs. If you can truly maintain that consciousness without using the formality of the four components, go for it! For example, formal use of the four components might be: “When you make applesauce with sugar, and I’m allergic to sugar, I feel frustrated and confused, because I value my health. Would you be willing to make another batch for me that doesn’t have sugar?” Idiomatic Compassionate Communication could sound like this: “Your applesauce has sugar in it? Oh, I’m really bummed cause I was excited about having some, but I get sick when I eat sugar. How would you feel about making a small batch without sugar for me?” Both methods mentioned an observation, feeling, need, and request. To some, the second method would sound more fitting for everyday conversation. Both of them, however, are honest and connecting.
